Auschwitz I Camp Video Tour— The Main Camp Stammlager
Begin the camp video tour with Auschwitz I, the first camp established by the Nazis at Oswiecim (the Polish name) in 1940, built inside converted Polish army barracks. It became the administrative center of the entire Auschwitz complex and held up to 20,000 prisoners at its peak. Block 11 was the camp prison — the place of execution, starvation, and the first experiments with Zyklon B gas. Krematorium I was the first gas chamber built at Auschwitz.
