This is the unloading Birkenau ramp at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
In the spring and summer of 1944, long lines of cattle cars full of Hungarian Jews were shunted to this siding and unloaded.
After a selection by an SS physician, their occupants were sent to a quick death in the gas chambers or to a slower, more agonizing one as slave laborers.
