Abe's Story - Lipno cart drawing

Cart to Ostrowy, Early Winter 1939: The Beginning

1. Horse-drawn Wagon - The Beginning from Lipno, Poland

Abe Korn was only 16 when his hometown of Lipno, Poland, was attacked by Hitler's air force, the Luftwaffe, on the first day of World War II, September 1, 1939.

Abe lived with his parents, Joseph and Hannah, and his sisters, Gitel and Mirjam (pronounced Miriam).

After the Nazis confiscated their business, Abe's father decided to abandon their home.

In late fall, Joseph hired a horse-drawn wagon and driver to take them to a nearby town, Ostrowy, to stay with relatives. Abe stayed behind to find friends to store their furniture and followed later.
