Roll Call – a drawing by Jan Komski

Roll Call

Each morning and evening, no matter what the weather, the whole camp had to gather for the roll call. Everyone, even the dead, had to be accounted for. Sometimes, when the numbers did not tally, or after a prisoner had escaped, they stood there for many hours, even all night.
