Czech Real Estate claims BEYOND 25 May 2001 |
These lines are being written on 18 May 2001 - just about a week before the deadline of May 25 2001
It would appear to be typical that we have been unable to obtain any accurate or informative information about the way forward. The best guess which we can make at this stage is that after considerable pressure, the Czech Authorities seem to be willing to accept claims under INHERITANCE proceedings, but not under RESTITUTION proceedings. The only way open for a claimant to know under which category his or her claim might fall is to determine what is CURRENTLY recorded in the Land Registry records in the locality where the Real Estate property is situated. Many of the Land Registry records have not been altered since 1940, thus making it possible for World War 2 survivors and their heirs to make an inheritance claim even now! It is thought that this situation has arisen partly as a result of the pressure exerted in the world Press and in the European Parliament. (see our section under the heading " Human Rights " We will endeavour to continue to inform of the situation as further news reaches us.
