“a fate beheld” | |||
Location: Sachsenhausen concentration camp, Germany Description: Solitary confinement cell windows were typically locked shut, leaving prisoners in total darkness. Occasionally, however, the open barred windows offered a view of the guard towers and hanging stakes on which fellow prisoners were unmercifully tortured. Credit: Photo credit: Joshua C © 2000. | |||
