Long trains of cattle cars hauled their cargo of humans
to this unloading ramp inside Auschwitz-Birkenau, or to other ramps very
close by. They were brought from all over Europe: the Greek island of Salonnika,
from Rotterdam, Berlin, Paris, Prague, from Budapest and Brussells and
Bucarest... This is the culmination of a vast network of tracks and trains,
switches and control towers, railroad yards and loading platforms, camps,
guards, clerks and often, meticulous planning.
